Stir Fry Inspirations

Asian inspired stir fries  are not necessarily a fast meal to prepare but they are delicious. You must have some basic Asian ingredients in your pantry such as: soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, hoisin sauce, red chili paste, and sesame seed oil. Preparing a stir-fry involves chopping all of the ingredients and assembling the sauce. That is followed by the stir-frying of the ingredients individually. Finally everything is brought together at the end right before serving. Stir Fries are a great way to feed the family plenty of extra vegetables. We either accompany the stir-fry with white rice or add noodles into the stir-fry to make more of a Lo-Mein dish. Sometimes we serve dumplings with the meal. If there is no time to make home-made dumplings we purchase them from Trader Joe’s or Costco.

Ci Piace il Cibo Italiano

“We Love Italian Food”. Our family loves Italian Food. Although we make foods from around the world, we tend to gravitate to the family roots. Today we are enjoying my husband’s homemade pizzas. In 2016 and 2015 we enjoyed pasta dishes. Delizioso!!!

My daughter and two of her friends are doing a Senior project for school. They have developed a food blog called Food Coma: 3 Girls & Way Too Much Food.  They are spending 2 weeks trying delicious food, writing about their experiences, and developing recipes. Wow, sign me up for that project!

Last year, my son and 3 friends built a huge trebuchet (a type of catapult) for their senior project. They named the trebuchet Gorgan. It was pretty impressive watching the trebuchet launch balls of different sizes and seeing them travel  long distances. Crazy boys and their medieval weapons.

I share quotes by Louis Pasteur, Benjamin Franklin, and Henry Ford.

Happy Star Wars Day!

Happy Star Wars Day! It’s hard to believe that the first Star Wars movie came out when I was in high school in 1977.  My son is a huge fan so the whole family has watched the movies more than once. I must admit I am a huge fan too.

Although what should have been on the menu today should have been astronaut food,  we are going vegetarian. I will slice mini eggplants and grill them. Then I will place the grilled eggplant slices on a cookie sheet and top them with shredded Gruyère cheese and pine nuts. I will then broil the eggplant until the cheese melts. This a a family favorite. We’ll accompany the eggplant with roasted cherry tomatoes with garlic that make a wonderful spread on fresh bread.

In 2014 we celebrated Kentucky Derby Weekend with Russian Beef Stroganoff and home-grown asparagus. Clearly, my daughter had a say in picking dessert, peanut butter cookie dough brownies!
